Cataract & IOL Surgery

It is a cloudiness of the normally clear lens in the eye. It blocks light from reaching the retina and hence causes unclear vision. As the cataract advances, this cloudiness of vision increases over a period of time until the vision is completely impaired. The only solution is to remove the cloudy lens and implant a clear artificial intraocular lens in its place. This restores vision in a majority of patients.

Cornea

The Cornea is the outermost transparent layer of the eye.
Corneal blindness accounts for 0.52% of total blindness in the Indian subcontinent. The cornea can be the site of various disorders ranging from whitening of the cornea due to degenerations and dystrophies to abnormalities of corneal shape including Keratoconus. Treatment strategies for these disorders include Corneal Transplant surgery, Auto-grafting for Pterygium and Corneal Collagen Cross-linking with Riboflavin (C3R) for Keratoconus .
At Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, we have a dedicated team of cornea specialists committed to provide you with the best possible care to protect your vision.

Dry Eye

It normally presents with irritation, grittiness and foreign body sensation in the eye. It is caused by a wide variety of conditions. Evaporative dry eye is commonly seen in people who typically work more than 8 hours on computer screens. Dry eye is also seen in people suffering from thyroid and joint related disorders, as well as, in people using medication for neurological disorders treatment.
Because there are so many different causes of dry eyes, your treatment will depend on your individual symptoms, and the cause of your condition. Most treatments involve either replacing tears, or reducing tear drainage.

Refractive Surgery (LASIK)

Myopia (Short sight) - Inability to see objects that are at a distance (Nearby objects are visible but far away objects are out of focus or difficult to see).
Hyperopia (Long Sight) - Inability to see objects that are close to the eye, however objects at a distance are easier to see.
Both these problems are commonly due to abnormalities in the length of the eyeball as well as the shape of the eye.
After the age of 18 when the power of your glasses remains stable for more than a year both these conditions can be corrected by LASIK surgery.
