He joined Assam PWD in the year 1949, after completing B.E. Civil Engineering from Sibpur, West Bengal. He retired as Commissioner cum Secretary in the year January’1987. During his tenure of 38 years of service, he served in various capacities. He was the Managing Director of Assam Government Construction Company and later became the Chairman. He was elected as the President of Indian Roads Congress. After retirement, he served as member of Assam Administrative Tribunal. He was the Director of Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited. He was also the Chairman of Theatre Foundation and was a fellow member of Indian Council of Arbitration.
He was associated with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya as a trustee of the parent trust Sri Kanchi Sankara Health & Educational Foundation from 04th January’2002 till his demise.
