After graduating from St. Stephen’s College and completing post graduation diploma in management from Faculty of Management, Delhi University, he joined Assam Oil Company on 14th October’1981. He became the first Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery in the year August’1995. He became the Chairman and Managing Director of Oil India Limited in the year May’2002. He was the recipient of Outstanding Performer awarded by North-East Chamber of Commerce& Industry. He was the recipient of best energy man of the year & decade awarded by Indian Industry & Economists. He was also the recipient of Life Time Achievement award awarded at Oceantex International Oil & Gas Conference. After his retirement, he served as Chairman & Managing Director of Stewarts & Lloyds of India Limited.
He was associated with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya as a trustee of the parent trust Sri Kanchi Sankara Health & Educational Foundation from 20th September’2001 onwards till his demise.
